Finale of the 20th edition of the GORE-TEX GRAND RAID comes to a wrap
This weekend the grand finale of the 20th edition of GORE-TEX GRAND RAID took place in Tignes. The winners are Cédric PUGIN and Jacques CHAUDAN, with the fastest and best runs! All this in sunshine and a convivial atmosphere.
18 highly-motivated teams were present and gave it their all. The forerunner was Seb Michaud (with a broken arm), accompanied by Serge Cornillat.
Both professionals and amateurs were put to the test in a good-natured, competitive spirit. The competition, open to anyone, even saw a clash of generations, with two father/son and father/daughter teams present!
Saturday’s program kept its promises: the prelude took place late in the day with the arrival at the trapper camp for dinner around the fire and a night in a typical yurt. On a Sunday full of sunshine with a few cloudy breaks and the breaking-off of two teams that had reached their limits, 5 runs occurred back-to-back in the beautiful area around ??Tignes, on snow that managed to hold up despite the spring weather! A very nice competition in spirit of good sportsmanship, the date has already been set for next year.
1. SANTA FEE EXPRESS – Cédric Pugin and Jaques Chaudan in 6.38 min. (last year’s winner as well)
2. MERLIN L’ECLATEUR – Fabien Meynet and Olivier Meynet in 7.00 min.
3. TEAM DE BASE 2 – in 8.01 min.
Seb Michaud told us:
By coupling my event “Gore-Tex Seb Michaud Invitacion” with the “Grand Raid GORE-TEX Master“, our joint partner provided us with a great weekend on the slopes of Tignes.
According to their comments, the 4 selected winners of the competition on the GORE-TEX Snowsports Products Facebook page spent 3 days that they won’t forget. I opted for the the most experienced skier with the best technique to join the pro riders invited on the upcoming trip to Argentina this summer. The Swiss rider Damian Camathias will have the opportunity to spend 15 days with some of the best freeriders in the world (Enak Gavaggio, Phil Meier, Ane Enderud…) on a grand adventure.
