Achieve Something Remarkable with Henri-Lloyd and The GORE-TEX Experience Tour.

The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is an experience that changes people’s lives. This year, thanks to Henri-Lloyd and the GORE-TEX Experience Tour, one of those people could be you. Anyone can join the adventure, even if they have never stepped on a boat before. The question is, are you game?

Henri-Lloyd and the GORE-TEX Experience Tour are looking for three adventurous people with a passion for life and the will to succeed to take their place on one leg each of the race. The eleven month long race circumnavigates the globe in eight legs in total. The three GORE-TEX Experience Tour legs will be:

Leg 3 The Southern Ocean sleigh ride departs from South Africa sailing the Cape of Good Hope and through the Roaring Forties before arriving on the sunkist beaches of Western Australia.

Leg 4 This leg takes you past another of the three Great Capes, Cape Leeuwin, then through not one, but three oceans as you sail from Western to Eastern Australia.

Leg 5 The Asia Pacific Challenge is the longest of the three legs taking the crew from the heat of a Southern Hemisphere summer up into the tropics and back across the Equator before arriving in Asia.

The prize not only includes the place on the crew, plus all travel and associated costs, but the lucky winners will also be kitted out in the latest Henri-Lloyd GORE-TEX products. As Official Technical Clothing Partner to the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, Henri-Lloyd ensures that every crew member gains a deeper knowledge and understanding of how the right clothing system can significantly enhance comfort levels and improve their long term performance.

Once the application process has closed, a panel of experts will pick a shortlist of twelve candidates who will be invited to a selection day in Hampshire on the 9th and 10th of May, which will include their first experience of being onboard one of the new 70ft racing yachts. Only once all of the finalists have been interviewed and assessed will the winners be announced. The three lucky winners will stay overnight to take part in the official Crew Allocation event where they will find out which crew they will be joining.

And that’s when the hard work really begins! The winners will have to undertake three intensive practical Clipper Race training programmes, which prepare them to safely and competently face the challenge.

The GORE-TEX Experience Tour launched four years ago. Tours to date have taken people across the Dolomites at night, climbing new routes in Arctic Norway and trekking across the most remote parts of Europe. This year, the ethos remains the same, just the venue has changed.

 

Applications and further information
Applications will open for 9 weeks from the 11th February and should be made through the dedicated microsite www.experience-tour.com after which there will be an additional week for people to vote for their favourite candidates. A panel of experts will choose the most suitable people from the top applicants and these finalists will be invited to attend the selection event on 9th and 10th May when the 3 winners will be announced.

Entrants must be over 18, be prepared to complete all necessary Clipper Race training and be able to travel and participate on at least one of the following legs of the race:

Leg 3 – October – November 2013 – approx. 23 days.
Leg 4 – November – December 2013 – approx. 28 days
Leg 5 – December – February 2014 – approx. 53 days

About The Clipper 13-14 Round the World Yacht Race
The Clipper 13-14 Round the World Yacht Race will start in summer 2013 and return almost a year later after completing the 40,000 miles route, making it the world’s longest ocean race. The event was established by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston to give everyone, regardless of sailing experience, the opportunity to discover the exhilaration of ocean racing. 650 people representing more than 40 nations will compete in the Clipper 13-14 Race on twelve brand new 70-foot yachts designed by renowned naval architect Tony Castro. It’s the largest race ever. Crew members can sign up for the whole circumnavigation or one or more of eight legs. The only qualification for the race is the minimum age of 18 (there is no upper age limit) plus a thirst for adventure. The overall race is divided into individual stages and points are accumulated in a Formula 1-style scoring system. The yacht with the highest total points at the finish wins the Clipper Trophy.
