Gaastra and Gore join forces
Nautical sailing brand offers GORE-TEX and WINDSTOPPER® products in Spring 2015
Amsterdam, October 9th, 2014: Gaastra, the nautical sailing brand company, will be starting a partnership with W.L. Gore & Associates to use GORE-TEX and WINDSTOPPER® fabric technologies in strategically selected Sailing and Lifestyle outerwear to create a range of superior performing sailing and casual wear products. The first collection will be available in Spring 2015. The GORE-TEX brand is trusted in the sailing industry since its introduction 20 years ago within this market. After extensive testing, GORE-TEX laminates meet rigorous standards of Gaastra, both in the lab and the field. They achieve an effective balance of waterproofness, breathability, windproofness and durability.
“It all begins when Gaastra signed the contract with Team BRUNEL in the Volvo Ocean Race” says Marc Blees, managing director Gaastra PRO. “This partnership presents an exciting opportunity for Gore to collaborate with a sports clothing brand in the nautical world, where design is just as important as practicality and technology. For us, every garment must be properly cut and also look good”, continues Marc Blees. The team at GORE-TEX fabrics sets very high requirements for the brands that use their products. For example, the clothing can be made only in Gore certified garment factories and every part of the design and production process is closely audited by Gore.
John Overdijking at Gore: “We have had a number of conversations over the last 15 years with Gaastra and with the huge success Gaastra has in the Lifestyle area along with the heritage and credibility in Sailing we felt the time was right to partner with them and build a strong long term business together. We are very positive about our future with Gaastra”.
Following on from kitting out Team Brunel for the Volvo Ocean Race, Gaastra is developing a collection with GORE-TEX and WINDSTOPPER® fabric technologies that will appear at retail in Spring 2015. Every sailor knows that the sea is all about survival. Which is why, given the choice between fashion and function, a professional sailor chooses function every time. This determination applies to Gaastra in all forms. Fashion Follows Function is Gaastra’s driving spirit. This is most visible in our total Gaastra collection, our cutting-edge line of professional sailing gear.
The history of Gaastra begins in 1897, when the 22- year old Douwe Gaastra set up his sail making company in Sneek, The Netherlands. Douwe Gaastra had the ambition to make sailing go faster and more competitive and efficient. In a short space of time, Gaastra became a household name in the global world of sailing.
We believe our clothing should enhance your performance and well-being whilst looking fashionable at the same time. To achieve this we bring a unique and successful combination of fashion and functionality to our collection. The experience gained in the development of our Gaastra Pro collection is used to optimize the functional qualities of the premium casual Gaastra Sport & Breton clothing lines.
