GORE-TEX Experience Tour: Eight winners to build their own Meindl trekking boots
The application and voting phases are finished and the eight winners have now been announced. From 20 – 22 February 2011 at Meindl’s shoe manufacturing facility in Kirchanschöring/Bavaria in Germany the winners can try their hand at building their very own version of the popular GORE-TEX trekking boot ISLAND MFS.
This project is part of the GORE-TEX Experience Tour which gives outdoor recreation enthusiasts the opportunity to carry out various projects with experts from the professional scene. All of these projects are being publicised and accompanied on the website and the GORE-TEX Outdoor Products facebook page of the GORE-TEX Experience Tour. Anyone interested in taking part can also apply on the website.
Meindl has been manufacturing boots in the Meindl Footwear Factory in Kirchanschöring/Bavaria in Germany for over 300 years. Its range includes one of the best-known and most popular boots in the world: the ISLAND MFS. Over one million pairs of this boot have already been sold.
From 20 to 22 February the winners will be building this very boot. This will involve cutting out the leather, stitching the shoe uppers, sealing the GORE-TEX seams, stretching the uppers onto the last and embossing the boots with their signatures. The winners will perform all these tasks under the guidance of Meindl employees and product specialists from Gore. Meindl owners and managing directors Lukas and Lars Meindl will also be at the facility.
The winning candidates, two women and six men, come from very different professional backgrounds. The group includes an orthopaedic technician, an accounts clerk and a student. However, they all have two things in common: they are passionate about outdoor sports and they enjoy working with their hands.
