German Equestrian Show Jumping Team to wear GORE-TEX Jackets During 2012 Olympic Games

During this year’s Olympic Games the German equestrian show jumping team will be well-equipped for the well-known London drizzle. The team will be sporting riding wear by Pikeur, official Olympic outfitter and long-time customer of Gore.

Besides the standard equipment of breeches and riding jackets, all four German equestrian jumping riders are equipped with waterproof and windproof GORE-TEX jackets. The riders were especially impressed by the waterproof and breathable garment offering protection from typical British weather, before and after the jumping tournament.

“After having received the order for London, we knew we would have to plan for rain,” says Wolfgang Brinkmann, Managing Partner of Bugatti Holding, which includes Pikeur Reitmoden Brinkmann GmbH & Co KG. “Using GORE-TEX fabric in the long jackets was a no-brainer for us as Gore has been a good partner for almost 15 years.”

Although equipment planning started in November 2011, Pikeur couldn’t begin production until all jumping riders were finally selected. Fortunately the GORE-TEX fabric was already ready to go. Only few weeks passed from accepting the order until shipping the products to Pikeur. “Having a good partner like Gore – who already supported us at the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 – gave us confidence that they would deliver on time,” Wolfgang comments.

Not only the four German jumping riders, but also a team of 16 people, including animal care staff and physicians, are equipped with GORE-TEX jackets.

The first show jumping event starts on Saturday August 4th.
