GORE-TEX Transalpine-Run 2012 – A dream comes true

On Saturday, September 8, the GORE-TEX TRANSALPINE-RUN ended with an emotional crossing of the finishing line in Sexten in South Tyrol. The 8th edition of the legendary stage run was not only an event of superlatives because of its record length of 320 kilometers and 15,000 difference in altitude. Never before has the competition been so international with runners from 32 nations and never before have the athletes been so toughly sifted through during the run. Colorado – August 23, 2012 – The GORE-TEX TransRockies Run, one of the United States’ most storied trail races, concluded Sunday in Beaver Creek, Colo. after six days, 120 miles, and 20,000 feet of climbing. The race took runners through the Colorado Rockies, starting in Buena Vista and visiting historic Colorado sites like Leadville, Camp Hale, Red Cliff, and Vail. Legions of volunteers, the TransRockies race organization, and presenting sponsor, GORE-TEX, provided over 300 runners with the experience of a lifetime. HEAVEN & HELL: W.L. Gore & Associates releases documentary film about the GORE-TEX Transalpine-Run

The GORE-TEX Transalpine-Run is arguably one of the toughest challenges in the world for trail and mountain runners. Every year at the beginning of September, 300 teams of two from all over the world cross the main ridge of the Alps in 8 days. Each day they cover distances of over 30 kilometres and tackle uphill climbs of some 2,000 metres. Filmmakers Miriam Jakobs and Gerhard Schick accompanied two of these teams for the duration of the run to make a 60 minute documentary film about the event. read more »

The GORE-TEX Transalpine-Run is set to take place for the eighth consecutive year from 1 to 8 September 2012. Five hundred runners from over 25 countries will take up the challenge of running over the Alps. During the eight days of the race the participants cover about 320 km and tackle 15,000 m of elevation gain. The course runs from Ruhpolding in Bavaria/Germany to Sexten in South Tyrol, the northernmost region in Italy. The number of runners is limited to 250 teams of two. Over the Alps in 8 days 245 teams successfully complete the GORE-TEX Transalpine-Run

After 8 days, 260 kilometres and 15,000 metres of elevation gain it was all over: 245 teams from 30 different countries had successfully finished the 7th GORE-TEX Transalpine-Run. It was the first time that the legendary transalpine race had been won by a Spanish team: “Trangoworld GORE-TEX”. read more »
